Belarus temporarily bans pork import from Lithuania

On July 13 the Belarusian Ministry of Agriculture and Food imposed a temporary ban on the import of pigs and pork from the Republic of Lithuania as a case of classical swine fever (CSF) was reported there, it was learnt from press secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Darya Kozlovskaya. 

The import permits that had been issued earlier were suspended. 

A CSF case was reported at Pasodele farm in the Panevezys region of . When the case was confirmed, the State Food and Veterinary Service of Lithuania imposed a temporary ban on pork exports. The European Commission and the neighbouring countries were informed about the hog cholera. Quarantine was announced to prevent the spread of the disease; 445 pigs brought to from were slaughtered. 

The neighbouring farms were inspected; laboratory tests are being carried out. Hog cholera is not dangerous for people.
