National Airport Minsk to double its transit potential

The National Airport Minsk plans to double its transit potential, Transport and Communications Minister of Belarus Ivan Scherbo said during the presentation of a new regular flight Minsk-Amsterdam on 10 August.

In his words, the National Airport was designed to serve 3.2 million passengers a year. “Yet the company annually carries only 1 million people. With the transit potential growing we hope this figure will grow to 2 million per year,” Ivan Scherbo said.

The new regular flight Minsk-Amsterdam is believed to develop the transit potential of the airport.

The flight will enable Belarusians and transit passengers to use one of the world’s largest airlines, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, a partner of Belavia, Director General of the national airline Anatoly Gusarov said.

The flight will be made three times a week: on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The flight will be operated on CRJ-100/200 and Boeing -737/500. Economy and business class seats will be available.

On Mondays the plane will depart from Minsk at 4.40pm and arrive in Amsterdam at 6.20pm. The return flights from Amsterdam are scheduled for 7.20pm with the arrival in Minsk at 10.50pm. On Wednesdays the plane will leave Minsk at 8.30am to arrive in Amsterdam at 10.10am. The return flights from Amsterdam will be taking place at 11.10am with the arrival in Minsk at 2.40pm. On Saturdays the plane will depart from Minsk at 2.40pm and arrive in Amsterdam at 4.20pm. The return flights from Amsterdam will be 5.20pm with the arrival in Minsk at 8.50pm. Time is local.

The Belavia national airline is based at the National Airport Minsk. Founded in 1996, the Belavia national airline accounts for nearly 65% of the Belarusian air transportation market. The company serves regular flights to 20 countries. The Belarusian national airline meets all international security standards. According to the IOSA - IATA Operational Safety Audit, the company joined the IOSA operator listing in 2008.
