Embassy of Belarus follows closely situation with cult members in cave siege
The Embassy of Belarus to Russia keeps an eye on the situation with the members of a doomsday cult who have barricaded inside a cave in the village of Nikolskoye, Bekovo region, Penza oblast of Russia. The consular officers of the diplomatic mission keep in contact with the law-enforcement bodies and authorities of the Penza oblast, spokesman for the embassy Vitaly Slivka told BelTA.
According to the embassy, there are 12 citizens of Belarus, including three children. All in all there are 30 people inside the cave. The group calls itself “True Russian Orthodox Church". They went underground on October 24 and are threatening to blow the cave up if the authorities try to force them out. Members are waiting for the end of the world, which they are expecting to happen next May.
The cult leader, forty-year-old Piotr Kuznetsov, is undergoing psychiatric examinations.
Despite all the efforts of the Penza authorities, no changes have taken place so far, the embassy said.
