The ceremony of awarding the winners and laureates of the national competition Best Entrepreneur 2008 will be held in Minsk on 10 September, director of the entrepreneurship department of the Economy Ministry of Belarus Alexander Likhachevsky told a press conference on 7 September.

According to him, the results of the contest reveal an increasingly growing business activity in the country. Some years ago there were only 5-8 contestants in some categories, now their number is 15-20. Apart from that, the performance indices of the participants have been significantly improved.

Alexander Likhachevsky informed that last year 891 applications were submitted, of them 173 were short-listed to take part in the national competition. “We announced 15 winners, and 32 laureates of the Best Entrepreneur 2008 competition,” the Economy Ministry representative said.

The competition was held in 16 nominations. The Belarusian-Italian joint venture Relouis Bel won the contest in the nomination for the Best Entrepreneur in Consumer Goods Production, the Belmyasprominvest private enterprise (Minsk) won in the nomination for the Best Entrepreneur in Food Production.

In construction, the best was SBA Stroirecycling (Brest oblast), In healthcare services, the main prize went to the foreign private enterprise Medindustriya Service of the Bishop Medical Supplies Limited (Minsk), in tourism to the private enterprise Sakvoyazh (Brest).

The Top Comfort joint venture (Grodno oblast) was named the best company with foreign investment. The Fidmash joint venture (Minsk) was recognized the best exporter. The EPAM Systems foreign private company from Minsk was the best company in terms of providing new jobs.

Belgazprombank and VTB Bank were named laureates in the nomination Best Bank Providing Services to Entrepreneurs.

Belarusian Prime Minister Sergei Sidorsky is expected to take part in the awarding ceremony. Attending the ceremony will be representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, the Presidential Administration and the President’s Property Management Directorate, public and international organizations.
