Belarus always attaches great importance to the relations with Latvia, Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Valery Voronetsky noted during a solemn reception devoted to the national holiday of that country – the Proclamation of the Republic.

According to him, the Belarusian-Latvian ties have been strengthening in many ways because of many Belarusian natives live in Latvia and many Latvians live in this country. The foreign ministries of both the countries successfully cooperate as well.

The Deputy Minister put a high value on the dynamics of the trade-economic cooperation of Belarus and Latvia. Starting 2007, the trade turnover between the two countries has doubled on the same period last year. “The Latvian investments in the Belarusian economy are growing; the transit potential of the two countries is an important factor of the cooperation development,” Valery Voronetsky added.

According to the Deputy Minister, the financial-investment forum and a session of the bilateral intergovernmental commission for trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation held in Riga in October this year is one of the most important events in the trade-economic cooperation of Belarus and Latvia. “The results of the events attest to a significant potential of the bilateral cooperation, a great interest of governmental, business and scientific circles of the two countries in intensification of the mutually beneficial contacts,” Valery Voronetsky noted.

Valery Voronetsky congratulated Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to Belarus Maira Mora and all the Latvian people on the national holiday. He wished that country peace and prosperity.

In turn, Maira Mora noted that Belarus is a valuable partner of Latvia. According to her, Latvia’s accession to the European Union is a guarantee of reliable and predictable business-environment for Belarusian businessmen in her country. The Ambassador highly appreciated the development of the trade-economic relations of the two countries, noted a significant growth of the Belarusian export to Latvia and an increase of the Latvian investments in the Belarusian economy.
