Hungary has long-term interests in Belarus

The first session of the Belarusian-Hungarian intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation that is due on 10 September will promote intensification of the bilateral cooperation in industry, agriculture, micro-entrepreneurship, investments, sci-tech area and the regional collaboration, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Hungary to Belarus Elena Kupchina told.

According to her, amid the global economic crisis the first meeting of the commission is very important. The Belarusian-Hungarian cooperation, first of all, in the trade and economic area has been showing good figures in the last five years. The trade had been steadily increasing to reach $ 375 million last year. “The economic downturn has worsened the mutual trade and slowed down bilateral cooperation. However, the governments of the two countries believe that with united efforts Belarus and Hungary would be able to overcome the consequences of the crisis much faster. Our countries are export-oriented and have similar potentials. Joint efforts would help us cope with the aftermath of the crisis,” Elena Kupchina said.

The participants of the first session of the bilateral intergovernmental commission are set to consider several projects to step up industrial cooperation. Such Hungarian companies as Knorr-Bremse Hungary, General Electric Hungary and Linamar have long-term interests in Belarus and are ready for full-fledged cooperation with the Belarusian partners.
