MTZ accomplishes Belarusian-Slovenian project worth €6m
Minsk Tractor Works (MTZ) has accomplished a Belarusian-Slovenian investment project worth around €6 million. The company commissioned a new line of processing centres supplied by Slovenian engineering company Riko. With the cutting-edge European equipment available, MTZ will be able to reduce prime costs and will increase the processing precision of components manufactured for powerful tractors.

MTZ’ Technical Director Leonid Krupets told BelTA, the upgrade had tripled the labour productivity of the workshop. The new equipment is already used as part of the division in charge of the full machining and control of casings of gear-boxes and clutch couplings of MTZ’ workshop No 1. The new equipment is used to machine five modifications of gear-box casings and three modifications of clutch cases. A controlling unit has been installed to verify the products’ compliance with design specifications.

Riko’s Director General Janez Skrabec remarked, the company has been working on the Belarusian market for eight years cooperating with Belarusian tractor and automakers, supplying them with contemporary metal-cutting machine-tools, enabling them to manufacture competitive products. The company has been expanding its sales in Belarus in recent years.

Belarus has a good investment climate, which explains the interest of foreign investors in cooperation with Belarusian partners especially such giants as MTZ and MAZ. One can say the competition on the Belarusian market is fierce, as many leading foreign companies are eager to work with Belarus, stressed Janez Skrabec.

The Slovenian investors are convinced Belarus is a steadily developing country, which has favourable cooperation opportunities. This is why Riko’s cooperation with Belarus is a long-term and serious business. Headquartered in Slovenia, Riko also supplies equipment made in Serbia and Montenegro, Croatia and Macedonia.

Janez Skrabec spoke in glowing terms about the Belarusian government’s efforts aimed at creating favourable conditions for foreign investors. These conditions are the reason why the Slovenian company has held many presentations in Minsk to highlight the opportunities for foreign investors and manufacturers engaged in mechanical engineering.
