Minsk to host Belarus Investment and Economic Forum on 12-13 November

The Belarus Investment and Economic Forum will be held in Minsk on 12-13 November alongside with the sixth session of the Advisory Council for Foreign Investments chaired by Prime Minister Sergei Sidorsky, it was learned from the Foreign Ministry.

The goal of the forum is to draw attention of the foreign business community to the measures taken in Belarus to promote economic liberalization and to create favorable business and investment conditions.

The forum is designed to assist investment cooperation between domestic and foreign companies, including by means of giving more exposure to large Belarusian business projects.

The forum will focus on such issues as Belarus’ advancement to the top thirty states with best environment for doing business, the measures meant to improve the investment climate in the country, cooperation between Belarus and the EU, using the scientific and technological potential to raise investments.

Thematic roundtables and sessions will highlight privatization in Belarus, small and medium businesses in Belarus, development of the financial market, infrastructure and construction industry, free economic zones and regions of Belarus.

The roundtable meeting titled as “Customs Union and the WTO. Priorities” will be held on the first day of the forum. It will table Belarus’ foreign policy priorities, with the emphasis being made on intensifying the role of the country in regional trade and economic organizations, and also the WTO accession, Eastern Partnership initiative.

As expected, the forum will be attended by no fewer than 500 people; a half of them will be representatives of foreign companies. Heads of Belarusian ministries and government agencies, high-ranking officials of UN organizations as well as big international and European companies are expected to attend as well. Taking part in the roundtable will be representatives of the government bodies of Belarus and foreign countries, the diplomatic corps, international organizations, the Belarusian and foreign business communities.
